Five Show Roles You Didn't Know Existed!

#ittakesavillage

1. Lifters and Shifters

The unsung heroes of getting everything to and from the places they need to be. They're fit enough to move a box or a tent or a table and happy to turn out during one or two of the afternoons and evenings when the tents, tables, chairs, boxes get moved about. Many of them are integral to Tombola Collection Evening, a mad rush of clinking boxes and goody-stuffed carrier bags.

2. Getaway Drivers

Another star of Tombola Collection Evening but also essential at other times. They might not have much time to give and they don't want to do a Showground role... but they have a vehicle with space in the back and they're able to shift some stuff at an arranged time. Nothing gets anywhere without them. You ain't seen me, right?

3. Plasterers

Not that sort, the other sort. They know how to apply plasters and bandages and are skilled in all the tricks of general first aid. They're an important part of the Showground crew and ready to deal with wasp stings or ice-cream burns at a moment's notice. Get me a lollipop, we're losing him.

4. Plate Straighteners

Show Day starts early as villagers fill the Show Hall with cakes, cardies, poems and pumpkins. The Stewards check entries against the entry list, show exhibitors to the correct places, show the judges around the exhibits, record their judgements and return their scoresheets to the Scorekeeper. Most of their job is really straightening plates. Are you a plate-straightener? Please have a chat with us about being a Steward for this year.

0. IT Specialists

You might have noticed that we're using more and more technology to organise entries, create and distribute exhibit labels, and handle our internal communications and public information sharing. A lot more help is needed here. If you think this has the makings of a decent joke with some errors then you're our people. Please please get in touch, we have pizza.
